In October 2001 after enduring weeks of toothache I was in urgent need of a dentist. I had not had a dental check-up for two years and also had a real phobia of dentists. I was unable to get an early appointment with any dentist locally so a colleague suggested I try Dr Tom Keppel at Cedar Dental
in Sutton, Surrey.

I arrived in pain and immediately felt reassured and cared for by the staff. My initial agony was swiftly dealt with. I had never before had a dentist who could administer hefty numbing injections and cause only minor sensation! My dental health was poor - a badly fitted bridge had allowed bacteria to get in and cause chronic infection in my gums. I needed several root canal fillings, the offending bridge replaced, old amalgam fillings replaced and where all efforts to save the teeth failed a number of extractions. After this, I had major work with the hygiene team to restore gum health.

Having lost so many teeth I needed to replace them! Cedar Dental Care has a highly Acclaimed Implantologist,
Dr Carl Manhem, as part of the team so I chose to have five Implants to restore my smile and my ability to chew properly. This was not a simple procedure as I had lost so much bone from the infection that I needed fairly major Bone Grafting to facilitate the Implants. All this was carried out in the comfort of the surgery where I had the utmost confidence in the expertise of the whole team.

Over the past four years throughout all of these very severe procedures every effort was made to ensure my discomfort was kept to a minimum. “From the day I started treatment I felt confident I was in very safe hands and that my comfort and well-being were priority”. Where do you go when you are constantly in pain, who do you trust, who is qualified to do the work?

After three months of suffering, I was referred by a friend to Cedar Dental Centre.

In December 2004, I had found myself with major infections and bridges collapsing, I had been told by my existing dentist that I needed dentures and/or implants. My recurring nightmare had always been having to wear dentures despite the fact that I had always been very meticulous in the care of my teeth throughout my life and had regular check ups and treatment, so why did this happen to me!

I had received various and varied advice from a number of sources and went to Cedar Dental Centre with reserved hope. After my initial consultation with Tom and Carl together, for the first time in months I had a reason to believe that I had found a team of multi-skilled people that had the experience to rectify my dental problem as well as being aware of the psychological impact this was having on me. They also gave me reassurance that I was in the hands of a highly caring and specialised team. Tom and Carl were both able to explain to me in layman terms and show me in detail via X-rays the cause of the problems I was suffering from and the recommended course of treatment.

As I left the practice, for the first time I had a big smile on my face and felt the burden and worry I had been carrying was lightened considerably although I knew I still had a long period of treatment ahead of me.

All the way through the course of the complex treatment which involved teeth extractions, extensive bone grafts, dental implants, root canals, and crown and bridge work, the whole team was very supportive and considerate to my pain and feelings. This support was not restricted to my visits to the practice. At each stage during the 18 months treatment, I received regular follow up phone calls throughout to ensure that all was well and had immediate access when a problem occurred.

I can sincerely say that from day one, the whole process was very professional, caring, and comforting to know that the whole team had my interest and well being at heart. In addition, the facilities and the environment where the consultation and treatment are carried out are first class and only add positively to the experience. 

A very big thank you to you all, I am so pleased with my new teeth and so proud of my new smile. My life has turned around in a very positive way, and for the first time in the last 20 years I can eat an apple and bite into a French crusty roll!! . I could not have envisaged 18 months ago how good I now feel, thank you so much ….
